The opera Norma is considered one of the most beautiful musical compositions by the Italian composer Vincenzo Bellini (1801–1835), and is rightfully regarded as his greatest work. He completed the music for this opera in 1831, and it premiered in December of the same year at the renowned La Scala theater in Milan, Italy. The libretto was rewritten by the author Felice Romani, based on a story by Alexandre Soumet.
